    Preheat the oven to 180°C. Grease a cake pan and line it with baking paper.

    In a large bowl, beat 4 eggs with sugar until the mixture has tripled in volume and become fluffy.

    Sift the self-raising flour and fold it into the egg mixture, preserving as much air as possible.

    Add the melted and slightly cooled butter and mix until combined.

    Fold in the ground cinnamon, a pinch of salt, and vanilla extract.

    Add diced apple to the batter and gently fold until evenly distributed.

    Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.

    Arrange apple slices on top of the batter and press lightly. Optionally sprinkle with almond shavings.
